Dog obedience classes can strengthen the relationship between an owner and their dog. We are passionate about training dogs to enhance bonds and improve day-to-day home life, without having the added stress of behavioural issues.

You can begin training puppies from around 8 weeks old, but it is also never too late to start. Here at A&T Trained dogs, we offer group obedience classes and one-to-one training programmes. These are suitable for any age, so speak to us about obedience training for both puppies and adult dogs.

What Is Included In Dog Obedience Classes?

We offer a tailored approach to each of our dog training programmes, as each dog is different. However, basic obedience training will include:

Basic Commands

  • Recall
  • Sit
  • Stay
  • Lie down
  • Asking for permission
  • Leave
  • Drop it
  • Wait

Advanced Commands

Advanced obedience goes beyond the basics and will build upon existing commands to teach dogs how to behave in more social situations, and have more trust when outside the home or if you want to enter competitions. This may include:

  • Hand commands over spoken words: Your dog will be able to follow hand signals without you saying anything. This makes it easier to give commands in busy and loud environments.
  • Unseen recall: If you are out with your dog, you will have the confidence that they can stray further away from you and still return on command.
  • Distant commands: Your dog will be able to follow commands at a distance. You don’t need to be up close and emphasising the action.
  • Off-leash behaviour and socialisation: Your dog will be able to socialise with strangers and be trusted in social situations. They will behave and follow commands off the leash, in different environments.
  • In-motion commands: If your dog is in motion, walking or running, for example, you can use commands, and they will still follow. They don’t have to be still and directly in front of you to understand the instructions.

The level of training will depend on your dog and what you need the outcome to be. Basic obedience is a must for any dog owner to feel in control. Advanced training will strengthen your confidence with your dog’s behaviour in most situations or take it to competition level. You will be more comfortable knowing that in a situation full of distractions and unfamiliar environments, your dog will listen, understand and act accordingly.

Our Approach To Training Dogs in Obedience

We conduct either group or one to one training sessions in Lancaster for both local and national clients. The number of sessions will vary depending on the needs of your dog, but we can offer advice and inform the best course of action for both you and your dog.

Outside the training sessions, we include advice on how to extend the training into your home for a successful transition. This includes how to conduct the commands properly to ensure there is no confusion and assert behavioural boundaries into your everyday routine.

How Much Are Dog Training Obedience Classes?

Group obedience classes start at £35 and one-on-one obedience classes start at £60. The cost will vary depending on existing ability, the level of training required and how long it will take. We offer a bespoke approach to get effective results for your requirements, so the price can differ. Our group classes will also be a separate set price. Speak to us for more advice and information on our training classes.

What Is The Best Age To Start Dog Obedience Training?

There is no preferred age to start obedience training, as dogs can be trained at any age. The quicker you start, the quicker you can build upon it and have results from an earlier age than leaving the dog until they become an adult. The perfect age to start training is between 10 and 15 months. Circumstances are different, however, so this is only appropriate if you have them from the puppy stage. Don’t let it put you off purchasing an adult dog because training is still effective. Our fully trained dogs all come with basic obedience training and have gone through 14 temperament tests in the selection process.
